Chop Sueyyy Serenades “Chantal”

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Chop Sueyy just dropped a smooth summertime joint.

Chop Sueyyy has been cooking up some heat these past few years. Hailing from South Central, LA, and definitely sounding like it, Chop has done a phenomenal job of dropping hip-hop records that reflect the many worlds he has frequented, the artists he has followed, and the people who played an integral role in his life.

Recently, Chop Sueyyy released an eleven-track project called The Crush Tape. One of my favorite singles from it is “Chantal.”

In “Chantal,” Chop Sueyyy speaks directly to the girl he’s seeing, apologizing for the times he treated her wrong, expressing how much he values her, and asking for her exclusivity (aka, he wants her to stop seeing other lame dudes). He also talks about getting it in (I mean, at least he’s keeping it real). Despite the romantic nature of Chop Sueyyy’s lyrics, he delivers them with a laid-back, extra cool LA twang that perfectly fits the R&B-driven, bass-booming beat, which successfully samples 702’s classic “Get It Together.” Overall, this is one of those smooth summertime bangers that will put you and your lady in the mood.
