Can you believe Rick Ross hasn’t dropped a project since 2021?
Rick Ross is officially gearing up for a new chapter. Following his recent Verzuz loss to French Montana, the Miami rapper has announced a brand new album called Set In Stone, scheduled for release on June 12. The project will mark his first solo album since 2021’s Richer Than I Ever Been and his first full-length release overall since teaming up with Meek Mill for Too Good To Be True.
Ross has had one of the most respected runs in modern hip-hop, but let’s keep it honest: he is probably far removed from his prime years. If we are talking strictly solo albums, Rather You Than Me from 2017 was arguably the last project that truly hit with consistency from front to back. Since then, a lot of his releases have felt less impactful commercially and culturally.
That said, Ross can still rap at a very high level. His verse on “Everyday Hustle” was excellent, and while “Champagne Moments” came off a little corny at times, the actual bars were solid. With Set In Stone, Ross now has an opportunity to remind listeners that he can still carry a major project without relying on a Drake feature (Sorry, I had to).
