Tyler, The Creator Shows Off His Rapping Ability With “SAG HARBOR” and “THAT GUY”

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Tyler can rap his ass off.

Tyler, The Creator has quietly been reminding everyone that he can really rap. Over the past few years, especially since CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST, there has been a noticeable hunger in his approach. His latest releases, “SAG HARBOR” and “THAT GUY,” continue that trend by putting his lyrical ability front and center.

On “THAT GUY,” Tyler flips Kendrick Lamar’s “Hey Now” and turns it into a loud, confident West Coast anthem. The beat has a strong Cali feel, giving Tyler the perfect backdrop to talk his talk. He comes across cocky, energetic, and completely locked in, delivering bars about money, success, and being uninterested in what everyone else is doing. It feels like Tyler bringing back that unpredictable attitude fans have always loved.

“SAG HARBOR” shows another side of Tyler’s artistry. Inspired by songs like “Dear Summer” and Ye’s “Late,” the track features a more minimal and relaxing instrumental. The production feels warm and effortless, but Tyler’s performance is anything but passive. He raps with urgency and confidence, attacking every moment and proving that his pen remains one of his strongest weapons.

Both songs highlight a version of Tyler that has become more comfortable with simply rapping. He does not need huge concepts or wild production choices to stand out. Sometimes, all he needs is a beat and the confidence to destroy it.

“SAG HARBOR” and “THAT GUY” are two strong examples of Tyler continuing to evolve while reminding everyone that the rapper has always been there.
