Ross’ newest album had a very quiet opening week.
Rick Ross‘ Set In Stone officially debuts at No. 39 on the Billboard 200 with 19,000 first-week units. For someone with Ross’ catalog and influence, the numbers are lower than expected, especially considering the amount of star power attached to the project.
The release serves as Ross’ first album since Too Good To Be True, his collaboration with Meek Mill that opened with more than 30,000 units. Since then, Ross has continued making headlines through his business ventures, social media presence, rap discussions, and impressive guest appearances. His verse on Future and Metro Boomin’s “Everyday Hustle” was another reminder that Ross remains very dangerous on the microphone.
Featuring artists like Don Toliver, Leon Thomas, Jeezy, Kodak Black, and BigXThaPlug, Set In Stone had enough recognizable names to suggest a bigger debut was possible.
Some may blame Ross’ ongoing situation with Drake for the performance, but at this stage of his career, first-week numbers are not the ultimate measurement. Rick Ross’ impact has already been carved into hip-hop history.
