WNTRBRK is a star.
If WNTRBRK’s career came with stock options, I’d want in early. The talent is obvious, but I especially appreciate how comfortably he moves outside the usual boxes. “R&B (Raw Version)” shows exactly why he has my attention.
The “raw” label is accurate as hell. Instead of a full beat, you get an edgy guitar that sounds like it might need medical assistance. WNTRBRK raps over it with a slick, assertive tone and a relentless flow, keeping the pressure up without sounding angry. A slight melodic stretch gives the track a welcome glimmer of sunlight.
Lyrically, he talks about chasing dreams, proving doubters wrong, and standing his ground. He also makes it clear that complicated relationships can stay somewhere else. He says the song came from a difficult period spent broke in Kawasaki, Japan, when he had plenty to say about the people and circumstances around him.
I’m rocking with how fascinating this sounds. The XXXTENTACION comparison comes to mind, but the performance still feels personal to WNTRBRK. Put this on your radar.
