The Game and YG Team Up on “Red People” Before Verzuz

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This might be the most dangerous Verzuz of all time. There will probably be a heavy ICE presence in LA tonight.

Before facing off during tonight’s highly anticipated Verzuz battle, The Game and YG decided to join forces instead. Their new collaboration, “Red People,” arrives with legendary producers Timbaland and Swizz Beatz handling production, making this a true Verzuz family affair.

I’ll be completely honest with you: I don’t know what Timbaland and Swizz Beatz did here other than use the Snipping Tool to copy a bunch of old-school beats we’ve all heard before (though I guess you can hear Timbaland in the background).

As for The Game and YG, they both spit like they’re hungrier than a Black person who just ate at Arby’s. The Game sets the tone with a gritty verse featuring his usual name-drops, a very steady flow, and lyrics that walk the line between competitiveness and violence. Meanwhile, YG brings the animation, repping his gang and sounding like someone who views violence as a sport.

This track feels like a glorified freestyle, setting the tone for the zoo we’re likely to witness later today. I’m legitimately terrified.
