Correct, N***as do get shot everyday, but Dolph seems to get shot more than every other n***a does. Maybe this galvanizes him? Maybe he brings out his best music when he goes through life threatening situations like the one he had in Los Angeles? He’s already a pretty passionate rapper, maybe giving him more riveting content to talk about only boosts his ability to tell stories? Whatever the case may be, I am excited for yet another chapter in Young Dolph’s journey — a journey that could’ve possibly came to an aburpt end back in September. (more…)

Ya’ll like a singing Tyga? I thought a singing Tyga was actually alright in “1 on 1.” Apparently after a trip to Kyoto, Japan, Tyga was motivated to sing full time, a move that is very reminiscent to what Kanye did back in his “808 and Heartbreak” days. Why can’t the LA spitter also experiment a little? Why can’t he expand on his artistry like everyone else? I am all for hearing Tyga play crooner, I’m just not here for his struggle braids. (more…)

The term “It’s been a long time coming” might be the biggest understatement in hip-hop history when it comes to Nipsey Hussle’s debut album. His name has been relevant in rap circles for years now, and to think that today, 2/16/2018, we finally get a chance to hear his first studio album is preposterous! With that being said, I anticipate Nipsey giving us something great here since he had us waiting for so long. (P.S, Nipsey is more than capable of making something great)Â (more…)

Throughout this year, I swore up and down that my guy Cozz had next. Well he finally gets his chance to shine, as his debut album “Effected” has finally dropped! With the backing of J.Cole, I expect a splash of greatness in it, and anticipate pretty damn good bars from the Dreamville up and comer. Enough speculating, it’s time to hear if he lives up to the expectations.

Did you know that the Blank Panther movie received an 100% rating from Rotten Tomatoes after 51 reviews? It is believed that one of the many reasons people gave the movie such a high mark was because of the revolutionary approach the directors took when it came to displaying African culture. With such an approach, I feel like it was imperative that the movie had a soundtrack that complimented its roots, which is why I think this soundtrack has a chance to be pretty memorable. Backed by Kendrick and his powerful T.D.E. label, Black Panther looks to feature a great showing of unrefined urban heritage through our favorite rap stars of today, something that feels perfect for the highly anticipated Marvel film. Would you look at that, 2 Chainz (Aka Tity Boi) dropped a surprise EP today! It’s only 4 songs, but with the energy level that 2 Chainz is capable of coming with, I can see this project feeling like a full length feature. With that being said, lets try to figure out what the hell 2 Chainz is talking about in the poorly titled, “The Play That Don’t Care Who Makes it!”

“Follow The Light” is a passion project and the work of a lifetime. Krister Axel, the songwriter, mastermind, guitarist, keyboard player, looper and lead vocalist of the project has included songs written 15 years ago on his childhood piano as well as songs written just two weeks before recording on “Follow The Light.” Recorded live in just five days, in a setting where only two of the performers had ever been in a room together, the odds were stacked high against The River South. However, these artists’ individual talents brought the music to life!
Adam Marcello, known for his 10 years as Katy Perry’s music director, played the drums. Jai Dillon strums his heart out on the bass complemented by Gabriel Rhodes’ synchronized guitar playing. Shawn Pander was the other vocalist on the album as well as the producer for the project as a whole. Delve deep into the world of roots music by taking in this album in its entirety. As quoted on their website, “this album is mixed dry for maximum flavor. Serve chilled with wine or beer.”

Whenever Justin Timberlake feels like it, he can return to the pop scene and dominate. He doesn’t need any big time features, any major promotion, he simply needs to be himself and everyone will like him. However, with such privilege can come laziness, something Justin never lets get to him; instead, he tends to up the ante when it comes to creating futuristic music, usually dropping tracks that can end up being apart of the new wave three years from now. With The Neptunes & Timbaland by his side for yet another ride, Justin looks to put his time traveling skills to the test once more with “Man Of The Woods.” (more…)

Rich Brian (Formerly known as Rich Chigga) has literally come a long way since he emerged onto the music scene. At the tender age of 18, the Indonesian rapper has already went from viral rap troll to serious rap player in two years, ultimately getting respect from both his peers and hip hop fans worldwide. Despite the fact Brian looks like a kid that got teased at your local high school, many feel he currently drops some of the toughest rap songs, typically mixing gritty bars with dark instrumentals. I’m not going to lie, Rich’s existence in the hip hop game is one of the most bizarre things I’ve seen in Hip Hop’s illustrious history, however, I’m sure Rich Brian thinks he’s more than just a fluke, something I think he will have to prove to us in this first album.
