The River South- Follow The Light (Album Review)

Follow+the+Light+-+final-01

Follow The Light” is a passion project and the work of a lifetime. Krister Axel, the songwriter, mastermind, guitarist, keyboard player, looper and lead vocalist of the project has included songs written 15 years ago on his childhood piano as well as songs written just two weeks before recording on “Follow The Light.” Recorded live in just five days, in a setting where only two of the performers had ever been in a room together, the odds were stacked high against The River South. However, these artists’ individual talents brought the music to life!

Adam Marcello, known for his 10 years as Katy Perry’s music director, played the drums. Jai Dillon strums his heart out on the bass complemented by Gabriel Rhodes’ synchronized guitar playing. Shawn Pander was the other vocalist on the album as well as the producer for the project as a whole.  Delve deep into the world of roots music by taking in this album in its entirety. As quoted on their website, “this album is mixed dry for maximum flavor. Serve chilled with wine or beer.”

Justin Timberlake – Man of The Woods (Album Review)

Whenever Justin Timberlake feels like it, he can return to the pop scene and dominate. He doesn’t need any big time features, any major promotion, he simply needs to be himself and everyone will like him. However, with such privilege can come laziness, something Justin never lets get to him; instead, he tends to up the ante when it comes to creating futuristic music, usually dropping tracks that can end up being apart of the new wave three years from now. With The Neptunes & Timbaland by his side for yet another ride, Justin looks to put his time traveling skills to the test once more with “Man Of The Woods.”  (more…)

Rich Brian – Amen (Album Review)

Rich Brian (Formerly known as Rich Chigga) has literally come a long way since he emerged onto the music scene. At the tender age of 18, the Indonesian rapper has already went from viral rap troll to serious rap player in two years, ultimately getting respect from both his peers and hip hop fans worldwide. Despite the fact Brian looks like a kid that got teased at your local high school, many feel he currently drops some of the toughest rap songs, typically mixing gritty bars with dark instrumentals. I’m not going to lie, Rich’s existence in the hip hop game is one of the most bizarre things I’ve seen in Hip Hop’s illustrious history, however, I’m sure Rich Brian thinks he’s more than just a fluke, something I think he will have to prove to us in this first album. Lil Wayne – D6: Reloaded (Album Review)

Lil-Wayne-Dedication-6-Reloaded-Cover-Full.jpeg

I don’t know a single person that isn’t happy for my guy Weezy right now. I feel like he deserves all the praise he’s been getting these last couple of weeks, as he enters into the final stages of his legendary career. However, don’t let it fool you, Wayne can still spit, showing us some pretty quaility bars in the original version of “Dedication 6.” Since the man is being held out from releasing an album by some very evil people, “D6: Reloaded” might be our best opportunity to hear one of the top 5 rappers (Dead Or Alive) spit over something/anything that is his.

Migos – Culture II (Album Review)

Whether you like it or not, Migos are leaders of the hip hop world right now, and to me, they confirmed that in their previous album.  Not only did "Culture" have a myriad of hits, but I feel like the style that the group rapped with on the album was also emulated by everybody and their mama! So, do you think that they will have the same impact with "Culture II?" Let's find out...

SiR – November (Album Review)

Isn’t it interesting how all the T.D.E. artists move? It almost seems like they enjoy flying under the radar for months, but then emerge to the scene with a body of work that is usually stronger than everyone else’s work. If my theory is true, SiR’s new “November” album will be considered one of the best albums of 2018! Aside from my baseless theory, I actually think that musically SiR has all the tools to be great, as he blends in authentic lyrics with the smoothest of sounds vocally. With that being said, as I press play on “November,” I hope to hear some of the most unique R&B s–t I’ve ever heard in my life (Don’t let me down, bro)! (more…)

Beezy – Dat Work: Overtime (Album Review)

It’s not very often that you come across a rapper that is able to display as much confidence as Beezy does in his raps, yet still remain true to himself content-wise. Not only does this make for some pretty satisfying music, but it also creates this level of engagement between the artist and the listeners that is as close-knit as it gets. With that being said, I expect ‘Dat Work: Overtime’ to speak directly to me when I hear it, as Beezy gets his chance to tell the world his underdog story.

Dave East – P2 (Album Review)

There isn’t many artists in the rap game working harder than Dave East right now: Whether it’s the remixes he’s been flooding the streets with lately, or the random Mixtapes he’s been dropping, this man has had his focus solely on the music (And I Like It). With the release of “P2,” I feel like this is yet another chance for East to get a bit more personal with his fans, as he continues to perform a balancing act between his newfound fame and the street life he refuses to leave behind.   (more…)
