Charlie Puth – Voicenotes (Album Review)

charlieputh_voicenotes_coverart_1__1.jpg

Charlie Puth gained the attention of the world with his vocal contributions on ”See You Again”. With songs like ”One Call Away”, “Marvin Gaye”, and “We Don’t Talk Anymore”, he continued to give listeners goosebumps. His debut album, “Nine Track Mind,” was filled with love ballads and heart warming hooks. Unfortunately, that led to a monotony of similar sounds and less experimentation. However, one special finesse the 26-year-old continues to unswervingly flaunt is his voice. “Voicenotes” is his sophomore album which was delayed because it had to be “perfected.” Whenever artists say things like that, they raise the bar a notch higher because all we’d want to hear is an album that has been perfected (aka a masterpiece). After listening to this album, in my opinion, it is worthy of being called a perfected album. Everything from the instrumentation, mixing and production is stirring! (more…)

Ty Dolla $ign – Beach House 3 (Deluxe Edition) (Review)

Still til this day, I don’t understand why people don’t give Ty Dolla $ign’s “Beach House 3” album more love. With hits like “So Am I,” “Ex,” and “Drop Top in The Rain,” how can you not like it? Anyway, today, Ty decided to bring out a deluxe version of the album, and it features six new songs. I don’t see it elevating the album’s buzz, but at least I’ll be a happy camper. (more…)

Tee Grizzley – Activated (Album Review)

There’s always that one dude in the industry I feel brings ‘the real’ every single time they rap; Tee Grizzley is that guy for me. Born and raised in the gritty streets of Detroit, Michigan, Tee has seen his fair share of adversity. Not only was his mother and father going in and out of jail throughout his childhood, but he also did some time himself for a couple of robberies back in 2015. It’s been a thin line between misery and success for Tee his whole life, and I think that’s what translates to this urgency in his music that is definitely appealing to listen to. (more…)

Desiigner – L.O.D. (EP Review)

1525362441_53f119612d96ab149dba8001d7050513

It feels like Desiigner has completely disappeared from the scene, right? After dropping his “Panda” track, it feels like he hasn’t quite gotten another song to stick with hip hop fans everywhere, which inches him closer and closer to ‘One Hit Wonder’ land. Not to be deterred, Desiinger has come back with “L.O.D.”: A seven track project that sorta came out of nowhere. Can Desiigner find a way to win us over once again with this project?  (more…)

Royce Da 5’9 – Book Of Ryan (Album Review)

Book_of_Ryan.jpeg

I feel like “Book of Ryan” was the album that Royce Da 5’9 was born to make. Never the first option when it comes to assembling a hip hop super team, Royce has grinded his way to rap relevance by writing some of the most jaw-dropping verses in the game these last couple of years. I feel like listeners are finally starting to take notice of what he’s been doing rapping-wise, and with this new 21 track project, he looks to make his argument for top 5 in the game; do you think “Book of Ryan” buffers his case?  (more…)

Slim Jxmmi – Jxmtro (Album Review)

Jxmtro.jpg

You know what I was guilty of in the past? Thinking Rae Sremmurd would be just another gimmicky duo that wouldn’t get past slightly relevant in the rap game; well it looks like they proved me wrong. In present day hip hop, I believe they have been just as influential as any one of their peers, but for some odd reason, it seems like they never get the credit they deserve. With that being said, I expect “SR3MM” to be the album that elevates them to super star status, especially since they’ve been showing off what they are capable of doing on the solo tip as of late. In part 3 of my 3 part review for this album, I look at Slim Jxmmi’s hard hitting “Jxmtro.”

DMV Darryl – The Dire Straits of America (Album Review)

Screen Shot 2018-04-29 at 9.42.18 AM.png

DMV Darryl hails from my hometown, the DC metropolitan area, and he’s one of the few MCs in the game that has this willingness to keep it all the way real on a variety of controversial topics. On his newest project, “The Dire Straits of America,” Darryl looks to leave the meaningless records we’ve been hearing in hip hop lately to his peers, and opts to focus on music that contains a message instead. Lets keep it real, we don’t get enough music like this on a daily basis, so I’m going to go ahead and indulge in this ten track project for the next couple of minutes. (more…)
