Lupe Fiasco – DROGAS Light (Album Review)

Did you guys know that at one time Lupe Fiasco was my favorite rapper in the game? This was around the time he released both  ‘The Cool’, and ‘Food & liquor’. It seems like since then he hasn’t been able to find that same magic, which has now made him drop on my list. His impact from his first two albums were so good that I still get excited for every new release, which means I’ll still rate this album. (more…)

Kehlani -SweetSexySavage (Album Review)

After all the social media gaffes, flings, and bad haircuts, the one reason we should really know who Kehlani is has finally emerged, and that is her music! You cannot deny that Kehlani is talented, as to me, she has this style that is reminiscent of some of our favorite R&B artists of the past – the twist is that she adds this 2017 honesty to this sound, making it feel modern. Her style is very unique, which is why I expect something special from her on this debut album. (more…)

Run The Jewels – Run The Jewels 3 (Album Review)

Killer Mike has been just as important politically as he’s been musically as of late, so combining these two attributes together to make a project is heaven sent for any fan of his. Mike doesn’t do it alone on this album however, as he is joined by a roughneck white guy named El-P from Brooklyn that is just as lyrically impressive. On this album, passion spews through each track, as the two MC’s electrify with this vintage sound that is just as unique as it is enjoyable.

Kid Cudi – Passion, Pain, and Demon Slayin’ (Album Review)

 

Before I start this review, let’s have a very quick argument shall we? With all your favorite rappers that sing (The Travis Scotts of the world, the Wiz Khalifas of the world, the Kanye Wests of the world), do you think a little bit of their style came from Kid Cudi? If you disagree, that’s fine, but you can’t deny that Cudi was one of the first artists that didn’t care to straddle the middle ground between rap and singing on any and every element of a song. While his music started to veer towards Star Wars movie scores in his last two efforts, his first two albums to me was The Blueprint to rap cats that aspired to sing. Well Cudi is back with a new album, and judging by his first couple of singles, it seems like he’s gotten back to what he does best.

Gucci Mane is the ‘East Atlanta Santa’, and he has a 13 track gift for us! (This definitely worked better when he had the belly though)

You have to respect Gucci Manes grind! Since he’s been released from jail, he’s brought out 3 albums, and at least 3 Mixtapes. He doesn’t care if you’re tired of his sound or not, he is going to release whatever he wants to like a boss. With this new project, Gucci has brought along a few of his big name friends to help him create some trap-inspired Christmas jingles. Ho, Ho, Ho Muthaf–kas! BURRRRR! (more…)

Ab Soul – Do What Thou Wilt (Album Review)

Ab Soul is one of the top rappers out right now (And I won’t budge on that stance!): His wordplay, combined with this understanding of catching the listeners ears with knowledge that refuses to tip-toe on controversial topics is something that needs to be heard by rap fans everywhere. While I think that his underrated stature in the game is something he rather have, I do think more and more rap fans are getting word of his style, and are very excited about this release; will he deliver under these new circumstances?
