Aminé – OnePointFive (Album Review)

I’m under the belief that Aminé is one of the most talented artists in the game right now. However, that doesn’t mean he’s the most poppin’ or sought after. With that being said, today, on a random Wednesday, he decided to drop a new project called “OnePointFive,” and I personally do not believe it will get much fanfare. But since I believe he’s such a solid artist, I do not think the out-of-the-blueness of this release will have much of a barring on the quality of the music you hear. (more…)

Nicki Minaj Puts Up A Helluva Rap Performance In “Queen” (Album Review)

Nicki Minaj is one of music’s most important brands. Her image alone is worth millions, and the influence she has on the youth is impeccable. But honestly, I feel like she hasn’t even reached her potential musically. Don’t get me wrong, she has shown that she can do a lot of different things throughout the years, but I’ve yet to see her take advantage of all of her highly rated skills for a complete body of work. With this “Queen” album, I am very hopeful that hip hop’s first lady can finally achieve that goal. (more…)

Iggy Azalea Flirts With A Brand New Sound In “Survive The Summer” (EP) (Review)

In this brand new project, we get a version of Iggy that is sassier and a lot more tough-nosed.

Mac Miller – Swimming (Album Review)

To say “Swimming” is a big album for Mac Miller is an understatement. Since his last one, The Divine Feminine, he’s experienced love, heartbreak, accusations of substance abuse, and one of the most bizarre arrests known to man. publicly, he’s handled each situation pretty well, with one of his smartest moves being not to say much publicly. However, with this new album, I expect to hear a different story. I expect Mac to tackle some of his past issues in the best way he knows he can: Through some lofty raps, bangin’ ass instrumentals and fearless content.  (more…)

YG – Stay Dangerous (Album Review)

We all know YG reps ‘you know what,’ doesn’t f**k with ‘you know who,’ and does his best to put on the city of ‘you know where’ in his raps. Ironically, as he continues to ascend into the A-list tier of rappers, he’s stayed pretty constant with this theme. With the release of “Stay Dangerous,” do you expect anything to be different? With songs like SUUWOOP,” “BOMPTOWN FINEST” and “BULLETPROOF” listed on the track-list, you should expect to be served a body of work that sets a very crooked hip hop game straight. (more…)

Denzel Curry – TA1300 (Album Review)

Steph Curry might have the shot, but Denzel Curry has the raps. If you aren’t aware of him, I feel sorry for you, because he is one of the most intriguing/dynamic rap acts in the game. With “TA1300,” a combination of a three part EP series, Curry looks to make a bunch of us believers in his Lo-fi rap wave, even if that means he has to show sides of his artistry that isn’t the most people friendly. (more…)

G-Herbo & Southside – Swervo (Album Review)

G-Herbo is the last of a dying breed. He has bars, is connected to the streets, and is as real as it gets when it comes to content. That is why I believe it is such a good idea that he decided to hook up with Southside, the last of a dying breed in his respective field, for this full length project titled “Swervo.” If you are unfamiliar with the two, all you need to understand is that both are gutter individuals that make music that is explosive and meant to be played for the side of your brain that is into committing savage acts. So before you press play on this album, please proceed with caution. (more…)

Dave East – Karma 2 (Album Review)

You know what I love about Dave East? He comes across like a lovable bad guy. Yes, he’s shot his gun plenty of times, talks about moving weight and treating chicks like objects, but he does it in a way that is so authentic, you can’t help but respect it. In “Karma 2,” I expect more of the same from the Harlem rapper, as he continues to balance commercial success with his hard-to-leave-behind street ties. (more…)

Popcaan – Forever (Album Review)

Stream-Popcaan-New-Album-Forever-Download.jpg

Popcaan’s name hasn’t quite been a household one over here in the states, but it has definitely been bubbling these last couple of years. For starters, he’s emerged as one of the go-to Jamaican artists that our favorite rappers have been calling on when they want a gritty Reggae inspired hit — especially after his contributions on Drake’s “Controlla.” But damn all that, Gina! This weekend, our guy dropped his heavily anticipated “Forever” project, and I anticipate it being a major player in the Modern day Dance-Hall scene. Let’s see if the Mixpak Records’ product can successfully bring out my dusty ass happy feet from the closet it was hiding in these last couple of years with the release. (more…)
